480,000 RSVP volunteers serve in more than 750 RSVP programs
nationwide; contributing more than 90 million hours of
service annually to communities across the country.
In Riley County alone, approximately 500 RSVP volunteers
serve at 55 volunteer stations. Annually, these volunteers contribute over 92,000 hours of volunteer service. There is no membership
fee to become a member of RSVP.
Volunteer Hours
RSVP volunteers serve part-time, for an average of one to four hours a week, through a variety of local non-profit organizations, agencies, and institutions designated as volunteer stations. Who is Served
Served are a magnitude of people from young children to older adults, including homebound elderly and at-risk youth.
Volunteer Activities
Activities include tax assistance, telephone reassurance, bereavement counseling, mentoring for elementary school children, bulk mailing preparations, museum docent aid, transportation, clerical, homebound meal delivery, hospital aides, nursing home activities, plus many more.
Volunteer Stations
Volunteer stations include schools, libraries, museums, the police department, community organizations, United Way, Chamber of Commerce, senior centers, hospitals, just to name a few.
Impact
Approximately 500 Flint Hills RSVP volunteers provide more than 100,000 hours
of annual service to a variety of public and non-profit agencies. The total
cost of
placing one RSVP volunteer is approximately $240. The federal cost is approximately
$154.
